Important Milestone in Malaria Elimination Efforts

The R21 vaccine is safe and effective and has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of malaria in children. It will be administered in a 4-dose schedule, with the first dose given to children between 5 and 17 months of age. The vaccine is expected to have a major impact on malaria transmission and will help to protect children from this deadly disease.
Malaria remains a major public health challenge in Mozambique, with an estimated 10 million cases reported annually. The introduction of the R21 vaccine is a critical step forward in revitalizing malaria progress and achieving the country's goal of eliminating the disease by 2030.
